Sakura Cherry Trees

Posted on: 3rd Dec 2020

The Mayor of St Asaph was delighted to receive the gift of 60 Japanese Sakura cherry trees from the Japanese Ambassador. About 6500 Sakura cherry trees will be planted across the UK in 2020 and 2021. All the trees to be planted as part of this project are of Japanese origin and the varieties have been chosen for their variation in colour, timing and historical significance.

60 cherry trees have been planted at various locations on St Asaph Common and also at Roe Plas Meadow. Some of the planting is informal, but there will also be an avenue of cherry trees across the Common and on the path to the riverside at Roe Plas Meadow. We are looking forward to the first blossom.

The photograph shows the Mayor, Cllr Peter Scott planting the final tree.
